Musician Matt Hubbard started his musical journey as a child taking piano lessons, playing in local bands, and singing at church in hometown East Lansing, Michigan. Matt later studied electronic music composition at Oberlin Conservatory, graduating in 1994. He began working with Willie Nelson in 1998 and has been recording at Nelson's home studio near Austin, Texas since 2000. Matt co-produced Willie Nelson's "Rainbow Connection" (Island/Def Jam 2001) which was nominated for the Country Album of the Year Grammy Award as was Willie and Ray Price's album "Run That By Me One More Time" (Lost Highway 2003). Matt has done extensive work as an engineer, producer and session musician playing keyboards, harmonica, trombone and other instruments. Matt played harmonica onFastball's Keep Your Wig On and trombone and harmonium on bandmember Tony Scalzo's solo album My Favorite Year. Matt also played keyboards on the soundtrack album for Babe: Pig in the City and composed original music for indie film "The Teller and the Truth" which debuted at the Austin Film Fest in late 2015.
Matt became a parent along with Martha Fowler, granddaughter of Willie Nelson, when their only child Dean was born in December of 1999.
In 2009 he formed 7 Walkers with Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann, guitarist Papa Mali and bassist Reed Mathis who left the band in 2010 and was replaced by Meters bassistGeorge Porter, Jr..  Their self-titled album was released on Response Records in 2010 to critical acclaim.
More recently, Matt performs as the new keyboardist with Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, toured with Rickie Lee Jones in 2016 as well as being a founding member of the Golden Dawn Arkestra. Matt leads his own group the Matt Hubbard Trio with bassist Brad Houser and drummer Robb Kidd.
